Bokoni Mine Projects – Community, Wellness & Executive Space

As part of a broader initiative to enhance the daily life and functionality of Bokoni Mine, this series of interior refurbishments focused on three key areas: an executive residence, a community Recreation Centre, and a wellness-focused gym.
Each project responded to the mine’s remote location and rich natural surroundings, incorporating organic materials, contextual references, and purposeful spatial planning. The designs aimed to balance comfort, usability, and cultural sensitivity, while elevating spaces that support both operational needs and personal wellbeing.
My role as lead designer across these refurbishments involved translating practical requirements into thoughtful, modern environments—each one tailored to its specific function while contributing to a cohesive vision for the site.

Bokoni Executive House – Refurbishment & Extension

Role: Lead Interior Designer
Type: Residential & Operational Upgrade

Originally serving as the mine manager’s residence, this existing house was refurbished and expanded to better accommodate both living and operational needs. The scope included the addition of a dedicated office space, a “war room,” and functional workstations—designed to enable rapid response to any on-site emergencies or mine-related decisions.
The design maintained a comfortable, lodge-style aesthetic, while introducing a more structured, efficient layout to support its new dual-purpose role. As lead designer, I was responsible for seamlessly blending executive comfort with operational functionality in one cohesive environment.

The refurbishment of the Bokoni Recreation Centre focused on creating a space that felt modern, inclusive, and deeply connected to its natural and cultural context. The design introduced wood finishes, earthy textures, and patterned detailing that reflected both the surrounding landscape and local heritage.
As a multipurpose facility, the space was envisioned to accommodate a range of community uses—offering flexibility while maintaining a strong, grounded identity. My role as lead designer was to ensure that the interiors felt both inviting and representative of the environment and people it serves.
